At the 90th Anniversary dinner Tim Nygaard and Eric Biersner were each presented with a $2,000 Jason Taitch Memorial Scholarship by WSU DU Alumni Association Board Member Chuck Arnold.

About Jason

After a courageous two year battle with a rare cancer Jason Taitch finally gave up the "good fight" in December of 2006. Jason's life epitomized and personified the "LIVESTRONG" motto as he faced life's challenges head on with strength, courage and integrity.

Jason was born and raised in Spokane and attended Ferris High School. He was an undergraduate member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity at Washington State University where he graduated with honors in 1993. Jason attended the prestigious University of Nebraska College of Dentistry. After Dental School Jason returned to Spokane and built a successful dental practice in the Spokane's South Hill.

Jason loved to work out and thrived on outdoor activities including mountain biking, skiing and hiking. He also was a huge boxing fan who enjoyed working out at a small boxing gym in downtown Spokane.

Jason lived in the Delta Upsilon Chapter House for all four of his undergraduate years at WSU. It is safe to say he had the highest grade point in the chapter each of those semesters despite being a Pre-Med (biology) major. Aside from the constant studying he always made time to participate in chapter activities and he was the house practical joker. He also took great pride in terrorizing the Theta House across the Adams mall parking lot, regularly raiding their kitchen and prank calling their president.

Apart form the practical jokes and funny business Jason also took the time to contribute to the house's academic success by being the scholarship chairmen for two semesters.

Though Jason obviously had more studying to do than most college students and he could have easily been a live-out, but he remained living in chapter house for all four years because of the traditions, comradely and the great friendships that he developed there. He was even close to "Fern" the house cook who he was particularly fond of though she regularly chased him out of the kitchen for requesting "late plates".

In March 2007 the WSU Delta Upsilon Alumni Association established the Jason Taitch Memorial Scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded to incoming WSU Freshmen and current undergraduate members of the WSU Delta Upsilon Chapter. The initial award of Jason Taitch Memorial Scholarship funds took place on March 10th in Seattle at the WSU DU Alumni Association 88th Anniversary Dinner, attending by over 80 alumni, undergraduates, and friends. Seven current WSU Delta Upsilon undergraduates received a total of $993 based on their scholastic achievements.

Jason was just an all around great person and a standout Delta Upsilon brother who would be incredibly honored to know that we are carrying on his memory with this scholarship.
